First, we talk about what is CBD?

As mentioned before CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is a chemical compound belonging to the group of chemical compounds called cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are natural made (and sometimes human-made) chemicals which can interact with specific cannabinoid receptors in the body. These cannabinoid receptors belong to the Endocannabinoid System, which is responsible for many bodily functions. Some of its duties are homeostasis (balancing of the body), regulating pain, mood, emotions, and stress, modulating the endocrine system and also take care of tissues of the body.

The receptors found in the ECS system can be separated into groups based on their location in the body. The one called CB1 is located in the central nervous system, and the one called CB2 is found in the peripheral nervous system. Together, CB1 and CB2 makeup the whole ECS in the body.

Cannabinoids can interact with ECS and deploy a range of functions. These cannabinoids are themselves separated into three different groups which are named based on their origin. The ones that are produced in our bodies are called Endocannabinoids. These are made from the precursor lipids that are made inside the neurons, and these have specific bodily function’s duties. Moreover, these are named after the eponymous ECS system. One of the most popular of these type is called Anandamide (this one has close links to CBD). Cannabinoids and Synthetic Cannabinoids

The group that CBD belongs to is Phytocannabinoids. This one usually has the cannabis plant as a place of origin. Phytocannabinoids like CBD and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol – is the sister cannabinoid for CBD) can be available in different species of the cannabis plant. CBD is not psychoactive (not able to induce a high) and THC is (it can cause a high). Either of them can be available in different species at the same time while one of them can also be absent. The effects of either of them are felt more whosoever has the highest concentration in the species.

Synthetic cannabinoids belong to the third group. These are made artificially in a lab setting as one might say,” On Petri dishes.” Due to their artificial growth, synthetic cannabinoids can be highly potent (thus toxic) for human consumption. Its examples are Spice and K2, which are mostly used to mimic the natural cannabinoids for industrial usage — discussions about CBD oil for migraines and CBD dosage for migraines began in the next section.

 How CBD works for migraines?

There might be a severe lack of studies in this subject matter, but there have been many research studies that may provide or are parallels for the subject matter. This may provide a way to understand how CBD can work its magic on migraines and giver relief to the user from its symptoms. Moreover, there are some studies existing that do work on migraines and cannabinoids. Additionally, all of these discussions pertain to CBD oil for migraines and CBD dosage for migraines(more on this later).

Arthritis inflammation and chronic pain management by way of CBD oil as parallels for migraines and CBD effects on it are abundant and a high starting point. The reasoning behind this parallel conclusion is that the effects of arthritis and chronic pain seem to work like that of migraine in pain patterns.

CBD and THC as a treatment for Migraines

In a review of studies that was published in 2017 found something about cannabinoids like CBD or THC and them as a treatment for migraines. Researchers found that marijuana (where CBD and THC predominantly are present) was effective and useful in treating migraines.

A 2017 study published in a journal called Pain tried to find the CBD effects on arthritis symptoms. They found that CBD was significantly able to reduce inflammation around the affected areas and served as a protectant against pain.

Likewise, a 2016 study was able to affirm that medical marijuana can reduce the frequency of migraine headaches. The catch is that the variable used to find the result was not CBD oil. Additionally, one study of 2009 proclaimed that frequent opioid users were able to see a reduction in pain when they used cannabis compounds instead of the opioids. All of these discussions pertain to CBD oil for migraines and CBD dosage for migraines (Which is what we talk about in the next section)
